Dharapuram is a rural town situated in Erode District is surrounded by four districts namely Coimbatore, Dindigul and karur Districts. Almost 40% of the population live under poverty line. The backlog of preventable blindness like cataract and glaucoma is high in this region. It covers more than 1000 villages and 15 lakhs population. For the past five years, the beneficiaries are 1.5 lakhs and done 20000 cataract surgeries both through base hospital and outreach programme. Through school children screening programme 12000 children screened for refractive error.
